It began with a young deer named Ulrich. Youngest born into a family of knights, the young buck started off life like most knights-to-be; As a Page. When he was dubbed a knight at twenty-one, and partook in his first competition with his new title, Ulrich was fortunate to meet the stableman's daughter, a lovely young lady called Isolde. Their courtship was long, and while Ulrich knew there was potential for him to be granted a noble's daughter to marry, the young buck chose his love first. In their late twenties, they were married, and their first child, Gabriel, would soon arrive into the world. Five years later, Tobias was born, and finally three years later, Dietrich. In their helplessness, they were all perfect, each earning the name of some of their most well known ancestors. Gabriel and Tobias grew up, their father's genes strongest in them, but as Dietrich began to grow, Ulrich soon realized his beloved wife had a secret she kept well hidden - Isolde was half wyrmme.
For a year, their marriage was in danger of ending, and the young Dietrich was soon locked away in the their earned estate upon a large stretch of land. The manor had been granted to Ulrich, by a nobleman, in repayment for his years of service, and for training his two oldest sons as pages to squires. The young child could neither understand this isolation, nor his father's shame in his changing appearance. The blue was beginning to spread across his odd, dark, furless skin and the nubs upon his back were growing into an extra set of limbs - wings where wyrmme wings usually sprouted, not the hand-wings of his mother's bat blood. While servants - his only company - took pity on the child, they were limited to the amount of contact they could provide, and resenting Dietrich for nearly being kicked from her comfortable life, Isolde soon forsook her son alongside Ulrich. Even his brothers were cruel.
A prisoner in his own home, he was at least granted some possessions in a form of mercy. For hours, Dietrich played with his toys and flipped through his picture books, soon learning to read when a particular old female mouse taught him the beginnings of reading and writing. Dietrich would surprise her when he showed a knack of picking up on such things at an alarming rate, and by age four, the child was reading far beyond his level. But his friendship with his 'Grandma-ma' would not last long, for the old soul grew too weak to continue serving his family, and was not permitted to visit. While some kind souls came and went, it would not be until a few years later that Dietrich would be granted the upbringing he needed.
Reading was not the only talent Dietrich possessed, for after stealing some sewing supplies, he began to create more friends for himself. Clothing, bedding and curtains were used to construct these odd looking and colorful dolls. The young child soon developped a knack for sewing, and never stopped even when he was punished for the theft and distruction of expensive linens.
At age six, tragedy struck the von Amsel household. It was close to Candlemas and the family was together for the first time in a while. Gabriel and Tobias, sent to their uncle's for training, to be eventually knighted, were often allowed to come home around such a holiday. Ulrich and Isolde had also mending their relationship by this point, but Dietrich was still the dark secret they kept locked away. Few only knew why, and they kept their lips sealed. Regardless, the Winter Festival was a time that Dietrich was permitted to join his family, but dark tidings were being put into play that night. The next morning, when the servants came to do their jobs and prepare for Candlemas, they found bloodshed. Ulrich, Isolde and the boys were all dead, brutally murdered. Ulrich had fallen outside, a crossbow in hand, and inside were the rest of them. Dietrich was amongst them, a crossbow bolt piercing the side of his tiny chest and arm. He had bled a lot, but by sheer luck, the bolt had managed to miss his heart and lungs, sparing his life. He was the only lucky one.
News of this reached his uncle, who was training Dietrich's brothers. The aging buck took it upon himself to watch over the orphan, allowing him to stay within his father's manor, as he was the only living heir left to take over that land. Possessing intelligence beyond his years, Dietrich did well with servants as his company, and the occasional visit from his uncle. At the age of seven, the older deer decided to take Dietrich under his wing and begin the teachings of being a page, now that he was old enough. Worried that he could lose his status without proper training and eventual knighting, the lessons were somewhat forced upon Dietrich, but they challenged the boy. Unfortunately, the growing youngster was not cut out for such a physical life. Many bones were broken as he trained, possessing ill luck it seemed, thus many of the physical aspects of his teachings were missed out on, such as dancing.
It was decided, when Di turned ten, that focusing on schooling was better suited to the boy. And he loved it. Dietrich advanced rapidly with his studies, and it was this private school where he met and became friends with a younger-than-most teacher. Isaak was a handsome, white wolf, with long black hair, which fascinated the mixed breed. As years passed by, things would grow more and more close between them. Dietrich latched on to the other like a child seeking a father figure, and reluctantly, he was accepted. By age fourteen, their relationship went beyond their pseudo-family ties, to becoming out right lovers. For half a year, passion was shared between teacher and pupil, but there was one thing dooming them; his teacher had a wife. The scandalous affair with the much younger Dietrich would shatter their friendship, and bitterly, they went their separate ways when Isaak's wife was finally able to be blessed with a child. Devastated by this abandonement, Dietrich never quite shook off the break up, growing noticeably bitter towards the world as a whole. Things would grow worse for the young mixed breed later that year.
On a regular trip to Albion, with his uncle, to watch as he competed in a tournament, Dietrich encountered an old friend. Esther was a young feline whose father was friends with Dietrich's uncle. Numerous times, over the years, they had met and stuck a close friendship. The young femme was blossoming into a maturity and also studying to become a full fledged Priestess. Feeling the need to cling to someone, Esther became that target. Reluctantly, she gave into his advances, and after some convincing, they consumated their relationship, despite Esther's vow of celibacy. Unfortunately, near the end of the tournament, his uncle suffered a loss, fell off his ostrisk, snapped his neck and died instantly. The young lovers would be torn apart when Dietrich was forced to return to Alemanish with his uncle's body. Before the year's end, Dietrich had sold his estate and collected most of his fortune in notes. The rest was made out in silver coins. He returned to Albion, to seek out Esther, but was unable to find any trace of her. Informed that her family had moved inland, to the Mountain Lands, so that she could continue her training, Dietrich let her go. His 'Star' was now out of reach, and wishing for a new start, the now-squire left his old life behind, traveled to Blaye and set out for Kasuria.
His stop came at Port Payne, and it was there his story in Kasuria began. Over the past two years, he has been making his way along the roads leading south, hoping to find a place to settle down in, but Kasuria was not been terribly kind. An encounter with a wyrmme left him horribly scarred, and many locals have been unaccepting of him, to the point of being cruel. As a result, Dietrich's stay in numerous towns have been short. Some friendly faces have been encountered over time, namely a halfbreed by the name of Forest. He educated the young male about wyrmmes, the war, and the outlook most Kasurians have upon furres like them. It was valuble information Dietrich had been without. On his southbound travels, Dietrich eventually discovered the mining town of Challiston Cross. After feeling out the town for some time, he eventually bought an apartment and settled in. It was the first place to feel like home in a long time. Here, he found acceptance, friends, and even love.
